Neymar joined Portuguesa Santista in 1999, and moved to São Vicente with his family in 2003 so that he could start his football career with the youth side named Portuguesa Santista. Later that year, the family moved to Santos, and Neymar joined Santos FC.

Neymar signed a contract with Santos FC in 2003, and he was enrolled in their youth academy. At the age of 14, Neymar also went to Spain and joined the youth team of Real Madrid.
