Madisonville Police Department’s K9 Cash and Major Jones visited the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson today. They listened to stories from our local heroes. We appreciate the service these men and women have provided to our country. The Patrick Rudd Project is honored to sponsor K9 Cash as a part of our mental health initiative, Mission: Share the Load.

It’s almost unimaginable to think that the Memorial Day weekend tornado took nearly the same destructive path as the 2021 western Kentucky tornadoes. Many homes that have recently been rebuilt were destroyed in Sunday’s storms. It’s hard to look for the positives in times like these but we know as a community we were better prepared, especially in the recovery efforts, after our experience in 2021. We are grateful for our selfless first responders, many who worked all night, as well as volunteers who cut through debris to rescue people. Our linemen have worked tirelessly to restore power to our communities and for that we are truly grateful. This storm was tragic but could have been so much worse. We are counting our blessings in Hopkins County, Kentucky. It’s home to some of the most resilient folks I know ❤️

Like every Memorial Day, I visited a friend today. It’s been nearly 16 years since I learned what this holiday on the last Monday of May truly symbolizes. It’s not a day to thank our Veterans or those who currently serve; it’s the day we honor and remember the sacrifice of over one million service members who have been killed in action since 1776. I was so proud of our little community on the day you were laid to rest and today and I’m even more thankful that you came home to a place that appreciates and honors what you gave up for our freedom. So many walks of life have embraced honoring your memory. But that shouldn’t surprise us, you embraced every walk of life and made everyone feel like they were your best friend. Your sacrifice was great and you will not be forgotten. “Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy forget in time that men have died to win them.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt
