Nobody wants maggots in their trash can, but unfortunately, they can be a common occurrence if you don’t take the necessary precautions. Maggots are fly larvae that feed on rotting meat and other organic matter. If you have a trash can with a lid, it’s important to keep it sealed tight so that the maggots can’t get in. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips for getting rid of maggots in your trash can.
Remove All Trash
If you have a maggot infestation in your trash can, the first thing you need to do is remove all of the trash from the can. This includes any garbage bags that may be inside the can. Once all of the trash has been removed, you will need to clean out the trash can with a disinfectant cleaner. You can make a bleach solution by mixing one part bleach with nine parts water.
Use Boiling Water
Another way to get rid of maggots in your trash can is to pour boiling water into the can. This will kill the maggots and larvae instantly. You should be careful when using this method, as boiling water can damage some types of trash cans.
Use Insecticide
If you have a severe maggot infestation, you may need to use an insecticide. There are many different types of insecticides available, so be sure to read the label carefully to ensure it is safe to use on your trash can. You should apply the insecticide according to the directions on the label.
