  2. #2 Best Colleges for Architecture in AmericaRice UniversityHouston, TX·4 Year·Rating 4.09 out of 5 1,122 reviewsGraduate Student: Going to Rice University to attend the Shepherd School of Music at a graduate level is an experience separate from the rest of Rice. The Opera Department at Rice University has been one of the best programs in the United States producing incredible singers in the industry for a while now. Financial aid has been decreasing from full rides to having to pay a couple of thousands to attend +fees for a Master of Music. It is case by case, however.Pros: BEAUTIFUL theater that is incredible to sing in, program's very YAP reminiscent (in good and bad ways), world-class faculty, great networking opportunity, masterclasses/private audition opportunitiesCons: your soul/free-time belongs to the Opera Department; if a release conflicts with the opera schedule, tough luck; there have been many issues with casting opportunities/favoritism; if you're a person of color, be prepared to be a token on all promo material; TOO many irrelevant time-consuming academics; having a car is a MUST in Houston... Worked full time days, took classes in the evening. We met twice a year, January and August for a one week intensive, to meet all students in our program, faculty and to do trips and physical work in our field, timer frame, masonry, research projects on sites, etc. The learning resource center is helpful if you need assistance. Learning in classes with people from around the country and world is wonderful, as you learn from each other about your field of study. The Help Desk and Library were all supportive when in need. Felt safe working all hours on campus, with 24/7 access given while doing our studies. The Facilities Crew was even helpful on some projects we were working on. The workload is exhausting while learning and working, but worth the effort as I would not have been able to obtain my Masters otherwise. Great College!... As a smaller sized school everyone knows everyone and when you are lost you can easily ask for help from people in your year or in other years. 7. #6 Best Colleges for Architecture in AmericaUniversity of California - BerkeleyBerkeley, CA·4 Year·Rating 3.72 out of 5 4,501 reviewsSophom*ore: UC Berkeley is a prestigious institution that has a lot to offer in academics and extracurriculars. To me, the people are what make the experience so great, and fortunately, with such a large class, there is a myriad of people and groups to be affiliated with which illustrates the diversity at Berkeley. Some things can be frustrating sometimes such as applying for classes, finding resources, and having intrapersonal interactions with professors and classmates due to Berkeley being such a large institution. Additionally, there are other inconveniences such as the lack of housing for students which in my opinion, needs to start being a priority for the administration. Overall, UC Berkeley has a lot to offer and it is truly what you make of it. There is always something to do on campus and when discussing with my friends, we do actually have way better food than most universities and colleges. The academics, especially the math department can be frustrating and hard, but I think this is a given for any type of higher education. 14. #12 Best Colleges for Architecture in AmericaUniversity of VirginiaCharlottesville, VA·4 Year·Rating 3.92 out of 5 2,421 reviewsAlum: I entered the school wanting a medium-sized town-and-gown experience and got what I wanted. The lack of diversity or meaningful connection to a typical metropolitan population was shocking at first. On a purely anthropological level, the mix and contrast of highly educated, milquetoast upper crust Americans with first generation scholarship students who know the struggle was enlightening. Greek life was overwhelming as someone who wasn't a part of it, yet they had far too much say about university matters for organizations that were ultimately self-serving. For some, the insular grounds can be comforting and grounding while for others, it will be suffocating and claustrophobic. As someone who enjoyed the Blue Ridge Mountains and local specialties, every season brought a treat. That's enough. I've had both irreplaceable and regrettable memories that come with being a college student far from home. If UVA could change for the better, I'd be more optimistic about the nation.... Despite being a fully online student for the first three semesters, I have been able to thoroughly enjoy campus life to its full extent. I have actively been on campus, going to sporting events, and participating with classmates in on-campus life. I have absolutely adored going to sporting events and being a part of standard college life. The atmosphere of being around fellow students while cheering for the Florida Gators in football, baseball, softball, or basketball. I also frequently go to the library to study on campus. Since I live off-campus and only take online classes (for the time being), being able to participate and feel like a normal college student is a feeling that has been so unbelievably important to me over the past few semesters. There are a handful of things that I do want to see changed, however. I started at the school during the Spring semester of my Freshamn year which made it a bit hard to meet people initially, but I found my people after only a few shorts weeks. I played club field hockey and joined a sorority, which made the adjustment easy. Academically, I find the school very challenging, but I believe I'm receiving an excellent education. I'm majoring in Health Sciences and this summer I'm working at a hospital as a nursing assistant. I feel well prepared thanks to some of the courses I've taken at school. The one drawback for me was I only had the opportunity to live on campus for one semester. Housing is hard to secure, so I've had to live off campus which I would have ideally delayed until my junior or senior year. The campus is beautiful and I'm very happy. What I did not realize were the many factors that came along with starting this new path of life -- living away from home, party culture, the football game frenzy, endless schoolwork, and the underlying pressure of having to make connections and network with others. Although these aspects seemed as though they were going to slowly but surely destroy me, I found great solace in studying (and the occasional bi-weekly matcha latte from Sweetwaters:)). The vast amount of resources in any field from ballet to biochemistry was something truly unique and a gift for someone interested in a multidisciplinary career like me. Further the research opportunities available to even first year students were abundant in every field. One thing I would like to see change is the resources available for people struggling to make friends and find a community. However, I hope my experience improves!... 25. #23 Best Colleges for Architecture in AmericaCal Poly San Luis ObispoSan Luis Obispo, CA·4 Year·Rating 3.77 out of 5 4,017 reviewsSenior: Cal Poly gives a lot of bang for your buck, especially as an amazing school everybody around the world wants to go to. The learn-by-doing attitude reigns true with most of the classes taken here. It may be tough for you or your child to feel welcome here at first but it gets better with time as you find people you enjoy. Classes are great and for every 5-9 professors there's 1 bad one. The school/area is more right-leaning than other schools in the state which may be your cup of tea. The Frat party culture is very toxic here, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to pay over 200-300 dollars a month. Plus partying is bad for your health :/. The area is wonderful for outdoors but the party life outside of frats is left much to be desired. There are minimal bars on the main street and no true club to go to in the area which is unfortunate. Christian life is superb here as there are a variety of different churches for people to try out! There isn't enough to do here but it's great!... 27. #25 Best Colleges for Architecture in AmericaColumbia UniversityNew York, NY·4 Year·Rating 3.82 out of 5 1,365 reviewsAlum: As a biochemistry student at Columbia University, my experience was extraordinary. The Core Curriculum was a highlight, exposing me to literature, philosophy, art history, and music. This interdisciplinary approach enriched my understanding and fostered critical thinking and analytical writing skills.Beyond academics, I loved engaging with the community through Peer Health Exchange (now S-HEAL), where I educated high school students on health and wellness. This experience enhanced my communication skills and deepened my commitment to public health.Writing for The Spectator allowed me to make scientific concepts accessible, improving my ability to articulate ideas clearly. Additionally, Columbia’s vibrant arts scene, from Miller Theatre performances to Wallach Art Gallery exhibitions, provided a rich cultural balance to my studies.Overall, Columbia offered a holistic education, blending rigorous science, arts, and community involvement, preparing me well for the future....
